SRU students present at Westminster Student Symposium

Ten Slippery Rock University students recently presented research at the Westminster College Student Symposium on the Environment. Seventy-five students from 11 institutions presented at the event.

Eight student presentations were recognized with awards, including "Systematic Review of Outcomes of Place-Based Education" by SRU's Samantha Laurence, a graduate student dual major in environmental education and park and resource management from Grove City, who earned Honorable Mention, Environmental Project.

Other SRU student presentations included:

-"Coffee and Humans: an Ecology of the Consumer" by Clare Clark, a senior environmental science major from Brookville; and Josh Paluh, a junior environmental studies and sustainability major from Waterford.

-"Using Service Learning to Understand Wildlife and Wildlands of Pennsylvania" by Madeline Shaffer, a senior park and resource management major from Avonmore; Jacob Smith, a graduate student majoring in park and resource management from Pittsburgh; and 2017 graduates with bachelor's degrees in park and resource management Duane DeHass, from Portersville; Ethan Thoms, from Aaronsburg; Grant Smith, from Mercer; Cassandra Welsh, from Pittsburgh; and Steven Steingass, from Parma, Ohio.
