Williams stars in premiere of "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings"

Malic Williams, a 2015 Slippery Rock University graduate with a degree in theatre, starred in the Prime Stage Theatre Company's recent production of "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" at the New Hazlett Theatre Center for Performing Arts in Pittsburgh.

The play was based on the book by Maya Angelou and directed by Monteze Freeland. The regional premiere adaptation brings to life Angelou's memoir about the challenges of growing up black and female in the South during the 1930s. Williams played the part of Bailey, the protagonist's older brother.

Williams has performed for various theatre company's in the region, including Throughline Theatre's production of "Cloud 9," Pittsburgh Musical Theater's production of "Dream Girls" and as a cast member of City Theatre's Young Playwright's Festival.
