Baek-Kyoo Joo, a Slippery Rock University associate professor of business, received the Cutting Edge Research Award at the Academy of Human Resource Development's International Research Conference in the Americas in Louisville, Kentucky.

The award is given to the 10 most outstanding scholarly papers published in the AHRD Conference Proceedings. Joo was recognized for his paper, "The Multi-Level Effects of HR Practices and Paternalistic Leadership on Organizational Commitments." Joo co-wrote the paper with Dae Seok Chai from Colorado State University and Shinhee Jeong from Louisiana State University.

Their research examined the influence that dominant authority figure leadership and human resources practices, such as perceived pay equity and developmental opportunity, has on organizational commitment and the moderating role of paternalistic leadership at the team level.
