A faculty-student research group from Slippery Rock University's Biology Department recently had their research published in a peer-reviewed journal.

Stacy Hrizo, associate professor of biology, and Martin Buckley, assistant professor of biology, were faculty coauthors with Mengqi Wang, a 2018 graduate with a degree in biology, and Annette Choi, a senior biology major from Chuncheon, South Korea. Their paper was published in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education under the title, "Visualizing cellular stress: A hypothesis‐driven confocal laboratory exercise to identify compounds that activate heat shock factor binding at Hsp70 loci."

The paper details a laboratory protocol to evaluate the effects of different chemical compounds on the activation of a cell stress pathway using fluorescence microscopy.

BAMBED is a peer-reviewed international journal sponsored by the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology that is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of biochemistry and molecular biology and promoting the scholarship of molecular bioscience education.
