Shidemantle awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Grascen Shidemantle, a 2018 Slippery Rock University graduate with a bachelor's degree in biology, was awarded the 2019 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship for her work as a doctoral student at Binghamton (N.Y.) University.

Shidemantle will receive an annual stipend of $34,000 for three years and a $12,000 cost of education allowance for tuition and fees to support her graduate work. At Binghamton, she is studying how human activity and pollution, such as salted roads in the winter, are affecting amphibians on sublethal levels.

Shidemantle has also received grants from the New York State Wetlands Forum, the Society for Freshwater Science and the Pymatuning Lab of Ecology that is housed at the University of Pittsburgh.
