SRU adjunct professor elected mayor of New Castle

Chris Frye, a Slippery Rock University instructor of public health and social work, was elected mayor of New Castle following the Nov. 5 election.

Frye will become the first African American mayor in New Castle city history when his term begins Jan. 1, 2020. Frye will succeed Anthony Mastrangelo, who served as mayor since 2008.

In addition to serving as an adjunct professor at SRU, Frye works for Lawrence County Social Services and serves on the board of directors at the New Castle Community YMCA.

New Castle, the county seat of Lawrence County, has a population of more than 21,000 residents.
