Nitin Sukhija, a Slippery Rock University assistant professor of computer science, conducted two presentations and co-chaired a workshop for SC19, the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis, Nov. 17-22, in Denver.

Sukhija led a session titled "Emerging Technologies and HPC Education, Outreach, and Training: Challenges and Opportunities," to help attendees become better high-performance computing teachers in the areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning and cybersecurity and other emerging technologies using HPCs. He also presented and co-chaired a workshop on the best practices for HPC training and education.

More than 11,000 people attend the SC Conference Series each year from the computing community, including researchers, scientists, application developers and computing center staff and management.

In addition to SC19, Sukhija presented, organized or co-chaired four other workshops and symposia during the 2019 calendar year. They included co-chairing the Workshop on High Performance Big Data Computing in Leicester, England; co-organizing the Workshop on HPC Education and Training for Emerging Technologies in Frankfurt, Germany; co-organizing the Strategies for Enhancing HPC Education and Training in Atlanta, which was a workshop coordinated by the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group on High Performance Computing's Education Chapter; and organizing a mini symposium on securing extreme scale scientific computing at the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics' Conference on Computational Science and Engineering in Spokane, Washington.
