Katrina Quinn, a Slippery Rock University professor of communication, received the 2019 Hazel Dicken-Garcia Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Journalism History.

Quinn received the award last month at the Symposium on 19th Century Press, the Civil War, and Free Expression at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The award is named in honor of the late scholar Hazel Dicken-Garcia, author of "Journalistic Standards in Nineteenth-Century America" and a benefactor of the symposium.

Quinn was also recognized for the fifth straight year with a faculty excellence paper award for her 2019 study, "The Western Press Reports the End of the War and the Death of Lincoln." She has published in numerous academic journals, including American Journalism, The CEA Critic, JNT: Journal of Narrative Theory and Literary Journalism Studies, as well as several scholarly books.
