Graphic Communications

Graphic design is visual brand messaging. Every design, whether a full brochure or a special event graphic, must represent and reflect the high standard and deep pride one would expect from the Slippery Rock University name. As such, the look and feel of every piece should amplify the SRU.

University Marketing and Communication produces a variety of creative materials - advertisements, banners, brochures, poster, etc. - for the University, as well as its colleges and departments. The office's work has been recognized many times with numerous awards from state, regional and national entities including the Collegiate Advertising Awards, the College and University Public Relations and Associated Professionals and Educational Advertising Awards.

Every publication produced impacts the University's reputation. As such, it is essential that all communication elements be well designed, use the SRU wordmark, logo or seal correctly and maintain brand consistency.

By following standards that have been established for all University publications, we can ensure that your publications are accurate; that they reflect the excellence of SRU programs; are consistent with other University publications; and that they meet your specific needs.

University Marketing and Communication must approve all materials that represent the University or its entities to off-campus audiences. Final approval by the publications manager is required for any editing, design and photography work taken off campus to commercial printers, artists or agencies. University Accounts Payable will not authorize payment for services obtained in violation of this policy.

The best and most cost-effective time to obtain approval is early in the planning process. Our professional staff can provide design assistance, from original concept through fully polished designs. They will collaborate with you to create custom pieces to achieve your goals and objectives and meet the needs of your audience.

A minimum of six to eight weeks is needed to complete your graphic project. This timeframe includes copyediting, layout and design, proofing, two rounds of proofs, bid requests and printing (in-house or off-campus commercial printer. Please insure that a budget has been approved for printing before contacting us for design work. Also, please decide on a quantity of printed materials needed beforehand so that we can determine if publication will be printed on or off campus.
