SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's Martha Gault Art Gallery will feature a joint exhibition of works at opposite ends of the visual spectrum Feb. 27-March 24, as the art of Jo Margolis and Michele Noiset come together in "Process and Perception."
"The exhibition features inner workings of their processes, demonstrated by the images that they make, collect and generate, to produce award-winning artwork," said Theresa Antonellis, gallery director and SRU instructor of art.
Michele Noiset’s illustration, “Ox socks.”
"Both artists have practices that involve routines of gathering images, processing visual possibilities and creating new images from far reaches, making art that evoke the esoteric, the mysterious and the contradictions of being human."
While Noiset's artwork is illustrative, Margolis's creations are abstract, Antonellis said.
Noiset earned an MFA in illustration from the University of Massachusetts in 2011. While completing her degree, she developed a conceptual body of work that she has continued to exhibit in group and solo shows across the East Coast and Memphis, Tennessee. Her artwork can be seen in national advertising campaigns and various editorial and trade magazines. She has also worked with corporations including: McDonald's, Nickelodeon, The New York Times, Ladybug Magazine, Staples and the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
Margolis earned BFA and MFA degrees from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Design. She has traveled extensively in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Iran, where she has found inspiration in the culture, artifacts and architecture. Margolis's works are owned privately and publicly. Recently, a number of her works were acquired by the Palmer Museum at Pennsylvania State University and by the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
