Slippery Rock University's College of Education received a $20,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to support RockTEACH, a program to recruit underrepresented minority students from Pittsburgh Public Schools to pursue teacher education at SRU.

As part of the program, SRU faculty and students traveled to Pittsburgh to mentor high school students interested in becoming teachers. High school students identified through the program will be invited to attend a week-long Summer Institute at SRU where they will learn more about the college experience and becoming a teacher.

Scholarship money will also be available from PNC Bank and SRU through RockTEACH for high school students who complete the program and enroll in SRU's teacher education program.

SRU education faculty involved in the RockTEACH program include Jeremy Lynch, associate professor of special education; Christine Walsh, associate professor of elementary education and early childhood; and Linda Zane, associate professor of elementary education and early childhood.
