Robert Carson, a Slippery Rock University senior health and physical education major from Mercer, was among the 78 college students awarded scholarships by the Recycling Education and Research Foundation. This is the second year that Carson was awarded the scholarship.

RERF, a nonprofit organization that works closely with the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, awards scholarships, between $500 and $5,000, to college students who are dependents of employees of active ISRI member companies. The scholarships are funded by regional chapters through fundraisers, donations and other initiatives throughout the year.

RERF’s mission is to sponsor projects which promote public awareness, education, research and the advancement of recycling. RERF has awarded more than $1.6 million in scholarships to 1,200 students across the country and has overseen research in science and technology involved with recycling.
