Slippery Rock University received a $20,000 grant from the PNC Foundation to continue RockTEACH, a program created last year and operated by the SRU College of Education. The goal of the program is to diversify the teacher workforce by promoting teacher education to underrepresented-minority high school students from low- to moderate-income households.

Through the RockTEACH program, SRU faculty and students introduce high school students to the field of teaching and promote college attendance through reciprocal visits to each other's schools, including high school students attending a one-week residential RockTEACH Summer Institute.

The PNC Foundation grant funds the RockTEACH Summer Institute, along with $5,000 in scholarships for RockTEACH participants who enroll at SRU in a major within the College of Education.

RockTEACH is led by co-directors Jeremy Lynch, associate professor of special education; Christine Walsh, associate professor of elementary education and early childhood; and Linda Zane, associate professor of elementary education and early childhood; as well as Monique Alexander, assistant professor of elementary education and early childhood, who serves as the program's student services and support director.
