SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — With college students really just returning to virtual classrooms following an extended spring break due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it may seem odd to begin thinking about summer, but it's not. Slippery Rock University Summer Session classes are a great way to progress toward degree completion, whether a student in enrolled at SRU, is a student at another college or university, is a qualified high school student or a community member who wants to take a class.

Current SRU students may register for summer classes April 13-24, the same time period they can register for fall 2020 classes, while non-SRU students may register beginning April 27. SRU will offer more than 550 Summer Session courses during five sessions, May 13 to July 27.

"Summer classes at SRU this year will be offered completely online, so they're a great way to benefit from the convenience and flexibility of studying from home while getting ahead and staying head for students as they pursue their degrees," said Amanda Yale, chief enrollment management officer. "Taking classes during the summer continues to be a popular option that many of our students use to their advantage."

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, all summer classes will be offered online this year. Online classes during the summer have been increasingly preferred in recent years. Based on averages from the last six years, more than half of the spots occupied by students in summer classes are in classes that are taught completely online. The percentage of SRU students enrolled in online summer courses has increased by 13% since 2014.

SRU students received an email April 1 with instructions on how to register. They will communicate with their adviser before securing their spot for priority placement in desired classes by April 24 using the MySRU portal on the University website. Non-SRU students must enroll at the University before registering. They can do so by visiting www.sru.edu/apply or by contacting the Office of Admissions at 724.738.2015.

SRU's five Summer Sessions include: Pre-session, May 13-29 (six credits); Session I, June 1-26 (seven credits); Session II, June 29 to July 27 (seven credits); Summer Term, June 1 to July 27 (12 credits); and Full Summer, May 13-July 31 (12 credits). Undergraduates can earn 18 credits in 11 weeks and graduate students can take 15 credits in 11 weeks.

More information about registering is available online at www.sru.edu/summer or contacting the SRU Office of Academic Records at 724.738.2010.
