The asynchronous online RN to BSN program at Slippery Rock University offers quality education at an affordable price. The program is one of the earliest online nursing programs and is offered at a regionally accredited university. The program fosters student engagement and active learning. Faculty and staff are available online for individualized advising and support to ensure student success.

Courses are primarily offered in 8-week sessions to provide maximum flexibility in progressing through the program. Students may choose to complete the program in as little as one year* or progress at a slower pace that accommodates their lifestyle. The asynchronous online course format allows students to customize their program to accommodate individual schedules.

Message from the Chair

Greetings and welcome to Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania (SRU)! I graduated from SRU’s RN-BSN program in 1995 and was honored to join the Nursing Department as a faculty member in 2014. I consider it a privilege to serve as Chairperson in a department that is known for its ongoing contribution to nursing education.

The Nursing Department offers two programs—an RN-BSN completion program and a School Nurse Certification program. The experienced nursing faculty are dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship and university and community service. They are committed to your success and providing you with learning experiences that will enhance your professional growth and development.

Nurses are a major part of the health care workforce, providing leadership and services across all settings and in collaboration with other health care providers. The demand for high-quality nurses in leadership roles, clinical care, teaching, and research is expected to grow as we seek to address the challenges of today’s world. Baccalaureate and graduate education prepare students for professional nursing practice and leadership roles. Higher education also provides opportunities for students to develop their potential as individuals and as contributing members of society. Professional nurses are self-directed, skilled in oral and written communications, accountable for their actions, and able to think critically and formulate independent judgments.

As you begin your journey at SRU, keep in mind the commitment needed to be successful. The programs at SRU require your use of good study habits, class participation, completion of assignments, and communication with faculty. I encourage you to maximize your learning experience by connecting with the faculty and your peers and being an active participant in your own education.
