Curlee Holton, an internationally renowned printmaker and painter, officially kicked off Slippery Rock University's Black History Month and President's Commission on Race and Ethnic Diversity Month celebrations Feb. 2. The theme for the celebrations is "Remember and Reclaim." SRU's Black History Month will feature more than 10 events through Feb. 28 including a keynote address from Kevin Powell, one of the most acclaimed political, cultural, literary and hip-hop voices in America today. Powell will speak at 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., Feb. 16, in the Smith Student Center Ballroom. The author of 12 books, his newest title, "The Education of Kevin Powell: A Boy's Journey into Manhood," is a brutally honest memoir about his life.
