Council for Exceptional Children

Council for Exceptional Children is an organization largely consisting of Special Education majors. However anyone is more than welcome to join! Through CEC you will volunteer with many different organizations for individuals with disabilities. We work closely with the Butler Arc and the Woodlands Foundation. We also do on campus volunteer work with APA and Best Buddies. At the end of each semester if you meet the requirements you will receive a certificate to put in your professional portfolio. There are also 2 opportunities to attend state and national conferences to make professional connections in the Special Education world. If you have any questions or are interested in joining please contact us at srucec@gmail.com.

Best Buddies

Best Buddies® is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). On campus, it consists of not only Special Education majors but also Therapeutic Recreation, APA, and any other that may have an interest. Through Best Buddies, you will volunteer your time with advocating during Spread the Word to End the Word Day, create a one- on- one friendship with a community member with special needs, dance the night away at the Butler Arc with the multiple dances through the year, and hold and participate in the yearly Friendship Walk. Best Buddies is a great organization! Any questions or interest in joining? Please contact srubestbuddies@gmail.com.
