Carpenter named dean at Penn State

B. Stephen Carpenter II, a 1987 Slippery Rock University graduate with a degree in art, was named dean of the College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State University.

In his new role, Carpenter serves as the principal academic and administrative officer for the college, which consists of nearly 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students; more than 250 faculty members; and 120 full-time staff. He oversees the college's academic programs in music, theatre, visual arts, art education, graphic design, art history, architecture and landscape architecture.

Carpenter was previously a professor of art education and African American studies and interim director of Penn State's School of Visual Arts.
