Slippery Rock University took home several honors at the National Broadcasting Society/National Electronic Media Association's national convention, Feb. 28 to March 4 in Washington, D.C.

WSRU-TV, SRU's student-run television broadcast and video production company and an affiliate chapter of the NBS, was recognized by the NBS as its "Motivated Chapter of the Year." Brittany Fleming, SRU assistant professor of communication, was named "Adviser of the Year."

Seven SRU students attended the convention, participating in several hands-on educational sessions, touring media facilities from outlets such as National Public Radio and iHeartRadio, networking with industry professionals and participating in a mobile journalism competition. Morgan Koziar, a senior communication major from Wellsboro, and Kevin Accettulla, a senior communication major from Pittsburgh, won the "On the Spot" video production competition by producing a short video while at the convention that shows off their skills.

The NBS is an organization that enhances the development of college students by preparing them for careers in electronic media industries. There are 60 NBS chapters comprised of nearly 1,000 students.
