Kirk McDermott, a Slippery Rock University assistant professor of mathematics and statistics, wrote a paper that was published in Topology and its Applications, a peer-reviewed mathematics journal that publishes research concerned with the properties of geometric objects.

McDermott’s paper, titled “On the topology of groups of type Z,” introduces a new method for constructing higher dimensional objects called manifolds. Using the method, McDermott constructs a new infinite family of manifolds.
