Clint Bleil, a 2016 Slippery Rock University graduate with a degree in music education, was chosen by a national panel of judges as the recipient of the 2021 Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Foundation and the Newport Festivals Foundation. As the recipient of this award, Bleil was showcased virtually at this year’s Newport Jazz Festival earlier this month.

Bleil, who is a visiting assistant professor of music at Washington & Jefferson College where he leads the jazz and wind ensemble, performed his piece “Continue On” for the Newport Sessions.
