Jeffery Musyt, a Slippery Rock University professor of mathematics and statistics, and Jim Anthony, an SRU instructor of mathematics and statistics, recently demonstrated an intersection between mathematics and art at the Carnegie Science Center’s SciTech Days in Pittsburgh.

Musyt and Anthony helped more than 300 local middle school students create complicated mathematical images known as fractals by having the students manipulate various functions and alter the resulting fractal’s symmetry. Musyt and Anthony were assisted by SRU students Candace Corvino, a senior mathematics major from Mercer, and Ty Baker, a senior mathematics major from Williamsport.
