Slippery Rock University’s College of Education was recently granted national accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. Fewer than 7% of the colleges and universities in Pennsylvania that are considered educator preparation providers have earned this national accreditation, which is a quality assurance through external peer review.

CAEP accreditation, which is granted in seven-year cycles, is for institutions that offer education programs leading to teacher certification, licensure or endorsement. SRU has 12 degree programs that fall into the CAEP designation.

SRU was previously accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, but that accrediting agency consolidated with the Teacher Education Accreditation Council to form CAEP. The CAEP national accreditation is not required because SRU is already fully accredited through the Pennsylvania Department of Education, but SRU pursued CAEP accreditation as a tool for self-assessment and to improve the efficacy of programs by meeting the highest national standards.
