Security Studies Club
The Security Studies Club is a student led organization designed to help take students out of the confines of the classroom and gain real-world experiences. This student organization focuses on homeland security, corporate security, and fraud aspects of the ever-growing complex threats facing the United States and private organizations, non-profits and non-governmental organizations. Security affects all majors, professions, and industries, so If you are interested in learning more about security, this is the organization you should join. Club activities include speakers on professional development and future career tracks, and field outings. The Security Studies Club also co-sponsors events with the Project to End Human Trafficking.
Project to End Human Trafficking
Human trafficking has been described as "modern day slavery", and the Project to End Human Trafficking seeks to promote awareness and support investigative efforts throughout the region. The Project to End Human Trafficking is a passionate organization of students dedicated to the eradication of modern-day slavery. Members partake in everything from education to advocacy work. If you are interested in learning more about the issues of human trafficking, then this is the organization you should join. Club activities include speakers on human trafficking, human trafficked victims, Red Sand Project, Poster Awareness activities, and co-sponsored events with the Security Studies Club.
Order of the Sword and Shield
National Honor Society for Protective Studies- The Order of the Sword and Shield, Slippery Rock University Chapter, recognizes students for outstanding academic and personal achievement, and dedication to the security field. This is the national honor society for Homeland Security, Intelligence, Emergency Management, and all protective Security Studies disciplines. The Order of the Sword and Shield was established in 2010 and a Slippery Rock University Chapter was created in October, 2018. We inducted our first students into the chapter on March 21, 2019. The first event the Order of the Sword and Shield, Slippery Rock University Chapter, sponsored was Bradford Willke- Director Stakeholder Engagement- Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) who spoke on campus about the threats to cybersecurity and infrastructure in America.
