The Chemistry: Pre-Pharmacy program at SRU will prepare you for entry into the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at Duquesne University. Through this program, you will spend three years at SRU before continuing to Duquesne to complete your PharmD.

WHY CHOOSE CHEMISTRY: PRE-PHARMACY?

Leveraging our partnership with Duquesne, you will successfully complete an undergraduate program in pre-pharmacy at SRU, then matriculate into the Duquesne School of Pharmacy to complete the professional curriculum of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree in four years.

The accelerated professional pharmacy curriculum at the Duquesne School of Pharmacy is offered in a challenging, rigorous 12-month program per academic year. The accelerated pace enables you to get into the workforce faster and more economically.

What are your options?

Chemistry: Pre-Pharmacy 2+4:

Through a 2+4 affiliation agreement, you can continue to Duquesne after your second year of study at SRU. If you chose this program, you will not receive a Chemistry degree from Slippery Rock University.

Chemistry: Pre-Pharmacy 3+4:

Through a 3+4 affiliation agreement, you can continue to Duquesne after your third year of study at SRU. After successfully completing your first year at Duquesne, you can apply for and receive your BS in Chemistry from SRU.

What Will You Learn?

In the Pre-Pharmacy program, you will take courses in chemistry and biology to understand the techniques most useful in chemistry, pharmacy, and related medical fields. Among other classes, your coursework will include:

  • General Chemistry lecture and lab
  • Organic Chemistry lecture and lab
  • Biochemistry I and II lecture and lab
  • Principles of Biology
  • Genetics

Careers In PROGRAM NAME

While the goal of the pre-pharmacy program is successful completion of your PharmD degree, a BS in Chemistry is only available with the 3+4 option and will also prepare you for careers in:

  • Business and sales
  • Medicine and pharmacology
  • Patent law after earning a M.S. and J.D
  • Political lobbying
