Why major in Dance?

SRU prepares students to transition through different phases of their professional and personal lives as dance professionals. This Bachelor of Fine Arts allows students to join up to three of our dance companies, which provide both experience and opportunities to network. Dance majors are also able to study abroad. In the past, students have traveled to Europe, Asia, and South America.

What Will You Learn?

The dance faculty are well known for their excellence in teaching and ability to educate dancers. Students expand and perfect their artistic and research abilities in various technique, performance, choreography, and teaching courses. Wellness for Dancers, Dance Kinesiology and Dance Technology are strong dance science and technology components of the BFA curriculum. In addition to the multiple genres of dance, including jazz, ballet, and hip-hop, dance majors learn advanced skills in leadership, pedagogy, and research.

Careers In Dance: Bachelor of Fine Arts

This innovative professional program prepares dance majors at SRU for diverse professional performance and choreography opportunities in entertainment and concert dance, private studio and business ownership, and administrative careers in the field. Students have gone on to become teachers, trainers, directors, designers, and professional dancers. The diverse curriculum provides students with access to a wider range of dance opportunities due to the extended training and differentiated emphases.

At SRU, student organizations such as Rock Dance Company and National Honor Society for Dance Arts better prepare students by providing many performance and choreography opportunities.
