French film festival is coming up

Six French films with English subtitles will be screened at Slippery Rock University as part of the Languages, Literatures, Cultures, and Writing Department’s French and Francophone Film Festival.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University will host a French and Francophone Film Festival, Feb. 8 to March 22. There will be six screenings of French-speaking movies with English subtitles available to the community. The festival is organized by SRU's Languages, Literatures, Cultures, and Writing Department with support from Albertine Cinémathèque, a program designed to bring French cinema and culture to American colleges and universities.

SRU is one of 50 recipients of a French-American Cultural Exchange Foundation grant who are hosting the festival.

"We are pleased to bring this festival to SRU students, faculty and members of the local community," said Malick Coly, SRU instructor of languages, literatures, writing, and culture. "The festival shows our commitment to diversity and inclusion and is another example of how SRU is a place where students can experience the world, understand its complexity, and feel equally connected."

In-person screenings are free and open to the public. SRU students can also watch the films online during a virtual screening period by registering on CORE, SRU's platform for student organizations and activities.
