Students dressed for Success

Feb. 12, 2020

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. When preparing for a job interview or even better, your first day at a new job, you always want to look your best.

As the old saying goes, "When you look good, you feel good."

Slippery Rock University will help students to do both through the "Dress for Success Fashion Show," 7 p.m., Feb. 26, in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

Students will model clothing appropriate for job interviews, corporate meetings and more during the runway show. Clothing is available from retailers at the Grove City Premium Outlets.

SRU's First National Bank Office of Career Education and Development, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Grove City Premium Outlets, AVI Fresh and the SRU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America are sponsoring the event.

"I say it all of the time: 'What goes on a college campus does not always go in the workplace,'" said John Rindy, SRU director of career education and development. "We cannot expect students to magically know what is and what is not appropriate for different work situations unless we create learning programs around those circumstances. We've done this program five or six times since I have been at SRU and it just gets better and better each time we do it.

"The best thing is that we present it in a relaxed atmosphere," he said. "Students can enjoy seeing their friends on stage modeling, have a chance to win a number of gift cards and hear about some great jobs available with Enterprise, which recruits more new college grads than any company in the U.S."

Each student attending the event will receive a raffle ticket good for a chance to win either a $300 gift card; one of two $200 gift cards; or one of three $100 gift cards that will be awarded at the conclusion of the show. Winners can use their prizes toward the purchase of business attire at Grove City Premium Outlets. Students must be present to win. Another four gift cards, each worth $25 each, will be given away prior to the event through the OCED's Twitter account, @SRUCareer.

Michelle Czerwinski, director of marketing and business development for Grove City Premium Outlets and Carmen DeRose, Jr., general manager for Grove City Premium Outlets, will emcee the event.

While the fashion show is free and open to all students, registration is required and is available by clicking here. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The Smith Student Center is located at 107 Central Loop, Slippery Rock, PA, 16057 and is accessible.
