SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The expression "make hay while the sun shines" is not just for those who plan to get ahead or stay ahead of their work on the farm. College students can make their proverbial hay as they progress toward their degrees by taking classes while the summer sun is shining bright. At Slippery Rock University, that means taking advantage of the more than 500 summer classes being offered May 12 to July 27.

"Summer classes are a popular option because they offer our students many benefits," said Amanda Yale, chief enrollment management officer. "Students choose to enroll in the Summer Sessions to boost their grade-point average, lighten their fall course load or to take a summer internship. It's a great opportunity to get ahead or stay ahead on students' path to graduation."

Approximately three quarters of all Summer Session classes are offered online, providing a convenient option for students who do not live on or near campus during the summer months. This preference for online summer classes is not exclusive to COVID-19 safety measures, as nearly two thirds of roster spots in SRU summer classes prior to the pandemic were completely online.

Current SRU students may register for summer classes March 29 to April 9, the same time period they can register for fall 2021 classes, while non-SRU students may register beginning April 12. SRU offers courses during five sessions: Pre-Session (6 credits), May 12-27; Full Summer (12 credits), May 12 to July 27; Session I (7 credits), June 1-28; Summer Term (12 credits), June 1 to July 27; and Session II (7 credits), June 29 to July 27.

SRU students received an email March 12 with instructions on how to register. They have until April 9 to communicate with their adviser to secure their spot for priority placement in desired classes using the MySRU portal on the University website. Non-SRU students must enroll at the University before registering. They can do so by visiting www.sru.edu/apply or by contacting the Office of Admissions at 724.738.2015.

More information about registering is available online at www.sru.edu/summer or contacting the SRU Office of Academic Records at 724.738.2010.
