SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University has earned a 2019-20 Field of Study badge for professional programming in education from the Colleges of Distinction. This is the third straight year that SRU's education programs have been recognized by COD.

The COD Field of Study badges represent programs that invest in student engagement in fields that demand innovative, critical thinking. COD awards badges after a comprehensive vetting process, individually selecting schools based on such qualities as accreditation, breadth of program and a track record for success.

"It is gratifying to receive such wonderful recognition for our programs," said Keith Dils, dean of SRU's College of Education. "Our faculty work diligently to create and deliver unique programs. Their strong example and inspiring approach are big contributors to our students' success.

"We attract terrific students who come to us wanting to make a difference. And, after they complete our programs and go out into the schools, they usually do."

College of Distinction Badge

In addition to two Field of Study badges, COD has recognized SRU with two "College of Distinction" awards for 2019-20, including naming the University a National College of Distinction and a Pennsylvania College of Distinction. COD evaluates institutions for their commitment to "Four Distinctions:" engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes.

"SRU graduates future educators who are not only knowledgeable, but also efficient mentors who provide empathetic support and novel teaching methods," said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for COD. "SRU continues to impress with its exceptional commitment to student success."
