SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — For the third consecutive year, Slippery Rock University's College of Business has earned a Field of Study badge for professional programming from the Colleges of Distinction.

The COD Field of Study badges represent programs that invest in student engagement in fields that demand innovative, critical thinking. COD awards badges after a comprehensive vetting process, individually selecting schools based on such qualities as accreditation, breadth of program and a track record for success. Overall, COD evaluates institutions for their commitment to "Four Distinctions:" engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes.

"Once again, we are honored to receive this prestigious national award," said Lawrence Shao, dean of the College of Business. "It truly takes a team effort from many dedicated individuals to offer our top quality programs. None of it would be possible without the assistance of our dedicated faculty, advisory board members and alumni who constantly assess the quality of our programs. Our focus has always been, and will continue to be, the success of our students."

Shao added that SRU business students have the opportunity to engage in academic scholarly research, service-learning activities, internships, diversity practices, community-based learning and study-abroad experiences.

According to COD, "Globalization and the intricacies of modern business operations require effective communication and apt problem-solving strategies. SRU's programs in business keep future industry leaders adaptable as they grow alongside their industry."

"Student success is a given at SRU," said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction. "All of its programs are backed with broad perspectives across the liberal arts. Every student is pushed to be inquisitive and active. And with such extensive experiential learning opportunities, it's no wonder why SRU's graduates feel expertly prepared by their professional education.

COD has recognized and honored schools throughout the U.S. for excellence in undergraduate-focused higher education for nearly 20 years. The member schools within the COD consortium distinguish themselves through their focus on the undergraduate experience. For more information, visit Colleges of Distinction.
