Colleges of Distinction, which is an online guide for college-bound students, honored SRU on its list for an eighth straight year. Additionally, SRU was cited as a Public College of Distinction and a Pennsylvania College of Distinction. According to the its website, COD highlights schools whose student-centered education prevails in applying theory to practice while fostering a dynamic learning community.

The COD selection process consisted of in-depth research and interviews with school officials about their freshman experience and retention efforts, along with general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction and more. Also included were adherence to four distinctions (engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community and successful outcomes), which are informed by "high-impact practices" to prioritize the ways that institutions enable students to have a fulfilling, individualized college experience.

"Every student has their own unique set of abilities, their own goals and their own ideal settings in which they would thrive," said Wes Creel, COD founder. "That's why we don't rank our schools. It's about finding the best opportunities for each individual's needs and desires. It's inspiring to see SRU commit to the learning styles and community involvement that will best allow their students to succeed in and beyond their college years."

COD has recognized Colleges of Distinction since 2000. Its website provides college profiles, customized tools and resources for students, parents and high school counselors. For more information about the awards, visit the  COD website.
