SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Green is not just an official school color at Slippery Rock University, it's also how the Princeton Review describes SRU as one of the nation's most environmentally responsible colleges. The Princeton Review named SRU to its "Guide to Green Colleges: 2023 Edition." SRU has appeared on the list each year since 2010 when the Princeton Review started annually recognizing institutions for their commitments to the environment and sustainability.

SRU was one of 455 Green Colleges selected from a review of more than 700 institutions. The Princeton Review, a tutoring, test preparation and college admission services company, recognized its Green Colleges based on a combination of school-reported data and student opinion, collected in 2021-22 through institutional and student surveys.

Survey questions covered key factors including "whether students have a quality of life on campus that is both healthy and sustainable, how well a school is preparing students for employment in an increasingly green economy, and how environmentally responsible a school's policies are."

The Princeton Review has seen an increasing level of interest among students in attending green colleges. Of the more than 10,000 college applicants the company polled for its 2022 College Hopes & Worries Survey, 77% said having information about a college's commitment to the environment would affect their decision to apply to or attend a school.
