Mohammad Kazemi and Viacheslau Kudrashou, Slippery Rock University assistant professors of physics, will present research they co-authored at the Society of Petroleum Engineers Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition this October.

Kazemi and Kudrashou had their paper, titled “Molecular Simulation of Enhanced Oil Recovery in Shale,” recently accepted for the virtual event, which will be hosted in conjunction with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.

The SRU researchers’ paper is one of few molecular studies of shale enhanced oil recovery, which involves controlling parameters, such as soak time, injection pressure and injection fluid, to extract shale oil from rock fragments. Their work, along with the extensions to larger scales, can shed light on the highly unknown and complex nature of shale recovery.
