Emily Keener, a Slippery Rock University assistant professor of psychology, was honored by the Association of Women in Psychology with the 2018 Distinguished Publication Award. Keener, who will be formally recognized at the 2019 AWP conference, received the award for her role as co-editor of a special edition of Sex Roles: A Journal of Research.

The special edition, titled "The Past, Present, and Future of Masculinity, Femininity and Gender: Honoring Feminist Scholar, Sandra L. Bem (1944-2014)," highlighted the work of Bem, a psychologist and feminist icon who pioneered work on gender roles, gender polarization and gender stereotypes that led to more equal employment opportunities for women in the U.S.

The AWP is a non-profit scientific and educational organization that encourages feminist psychological research, theory and activism.
