A.J. Sumser, a Slippery Rock University senior recreational therapy major from Avon, Ohio, was selected as a Peg Connolly Scholar by the American Therapeutic Recreation Association.

The award honors Peg Connolly the first ATRA president and former executive director of the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification. Recipients received a paid registration for the annual ATRA conference, which occured virtually this year. In addition to benefitting from the knowledge obtained from the conference’s sessions, Connolly Scholars assist in various aspects of implementing the conference and have access to additional networking opportunities.

The scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate recreational therapy students who are members of ATRA. The ATRA is the only national membership organization representing the interests and needs of therapeutic recreation specialists, also known as recreational therapists.
