SRU wins ACHIEVA professional service award

Slippery Rock University was selected to receive the 2018 ACHIEVA Awards of Excellence for Professional Service.

SRU will be recognized for its transition programs, including the Rock Life and Transition Achievement Program programs, which provide college and high school students who have intellectual or development disabilities with life-skills training and prepares them for competitive employment. Robert Arnhold, professor of physical and health education and director of the Rock Life and TAP programs, will accept the award at a reception, Dec. 11 at the Sheraton Hotel, Station Square in Pittsburgh.

ACHIEVA is a nonprofit agency that provides services for individuals with disabilities and their families in southwestern Pennsylvania. Each year ACHIEVA recognizes local people and organizations who advocate for their mission to create a community "where disability is a distinction that makes no difference."
