Employees in Slippery Rock University's Finance Department taught financial literacy classes earlier this month at Freeport Area High School as part of an inaugural community service program organized through the United Way of Butler County.

Molly Mercer, chief financial officer, who serves on the United Way of Butler County board of directors, led a group from SRU that included Cara Kriebel, senior budget analyst; John Simon, assistant controller; Renee Jenkins, director of student accounting; and Linda Moore, position control manager. They helped freshmen students at Freeport understand the basics of establishing plans, budgets, saving and investing.
