Emily Dolan, a Slippery Rock University assistant professor of strategic communication and media, and Brittany Fleming, an associate professor of strategic communication and media, co-authored research that was published in the College Media Review, the journal of the College Media Association.

Their study, published in “Research (Vol. 59): Maintaining and Framing Social Media,” examined more than 26,000 tweets from award-winning student newspapers to analyze how they used social media to maintain relationships with their audiences. Their findings, which suggest that student newspapers’ social media use should be centered on maintaining relationships between audiences and their university communities, were used to propose a list of social media best practices for student newspapers and advisers.
