Doug Strahler, a Slippery Rock University associate professor of strategic communication and media, and Nicholas Artman, an SRU assistant professor of strategic communication and media, co-authored a chapter in the book "Classroom on the Road: Designing, Teaching, and Theorizing Out-of-the-Box Faculty-Led Student Travel."

The book, edited by Irina Gendelman and Jeff Birkenstein, explores real-world examples of faculty-led student travel that challenge the dominant paradigms of conventional tourism for student engagement. Artman and Strahler's chapter, titled "Digital Storytelling: Using Global Engagement and Student-Centered Learning to (Re-) Produce Travel," describes the digital storytelling process in which people tell short stories using digital media production, combining video, images, music and spoken word. They used examples from their faculty-led, study-abroad program to London in 2019 with SRU students.
