The intramural flag football club team at Slippery Rock University placed second in the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association Regional Championship earlier this month at the University of Maryland.

The club team from SRU posted a 4-2 record, including playoff wins over the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Rutgers University and the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, before losing to North Carolina A&T State University in the championship.

Matthew Lobaugh, assistant director of recreational sports, coached the 12-member team. NIRSA, an organization of 4,500 members serving more than 8 million college students through intramural and recreational opportunities, hosts national championships each year for intramural sports such as basketball, flag football and soccer.
