Denny Douds, a 1963 Slippery Rock University graduate with a degree in physical education, retired as head football coach at East Stroudsburg University after 45 years of leading the program.

Douds announced his retirement in unique fashion, calling a timeout during ESU's home finale this year and addressing his team on the field. He will continue his duties as an assistant professor of sport management at ESU and assume fundraising responsibilities for the athletic department.

At the time of his retirement announcement, Douds was the NCAA active leader in career wins (264) and games coached (471), which ranked 16th and seventh, respectively, all-time in NCAA history across all divisions.

Douds played football at SRU for three seasons, earning All-America honors as a senior in 1962.
