Judy Silva, a Slippery Rock University associate professor of library, and Barbara "Joie" McIntosh, a 2018 SRU graduate with a bachelor's degree in English, co-authored an article that was recently published in RBM: A Journal of Rare Books, Manuscripts, & Cultural Heritage.

Silva and McIntosh's article, titled "An Independent Study Course by an Academic Library Department: Teaching with the Gems of Special Collections," details how Silva supervised McIntosh's independent study of "gems," or researching unusual or significant items in an academic library setting, on topics of McIntosh's choosing, which were three works related to James Joyce's "Finnegans Wake."

Related to her study, Silva also presented "Teaching Roles for Archivists: Supporting and Expanding Undergraduates' Primary Source Literacy Skills" at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference last month in Cambridge, Maryland.
