Institutional Surveys

As an institution of public higher education that serves the needs of our students, Slippery Rock University is committed to continual self-examination and improvement. To better articulate the value of a college education, we must measure and assess the entire curricular and co-curricular experience, which means measuring more than students' earned grades or their time to degree.

The University is committed to a culture of assessment and evaluation, and our annual calendar of surveys demonstrates this. We regularly solicit feedback from students about their educational experiences, engagement, challenges, and satisfaction with our University.

Survey Cycle

Slippery Rock University routinely surveys its students, faculty, and staff for continual assessment and improvement of its operations. Some surveys are conducted annually while others occur on 2-5 year cycles. The surveys include both University-designed instruments as well as national assessments.

The Office of Analytics and Decision Support is charged with the administration and/or support of institution-wide surveys that provide the University with insights into student learning, engagement, and satisfaction and into the experiences of SRU faculty, staff and alumni.

Results from routine surveys are typically shared with faculty, the senior administration and the council of trustees. These assessments receive careful consideration in planning and decision-making and also inform committee work.

National Survey of Student Engagement

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is an industry leader in assessing university student engagement in academics and co-curricular activities. Below is an overview of results from SRU's most recent administration of NSSE in the spring of 2022.

Student Satisfaction Inventory

The Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI) captures both how students rate the importance of and satisfaction with their educational experiences, campus services, and amenities. Below is a summary from SRU's most recent administration of the SSI in the spring of 2018. PASSHE Alumni Survey

Survey of All PASSHE Alumni

Every year, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education contacts alumni of the 14 system universities who graduates approximately 2 years prior. In spring 2019, survey recipients were alumni who graduated in the 2016-17 academic year. PASSHE asks those alumni questions about overall satisfaction with their alma mater, employment-search experience, and whether they are employed or pursuing further education.

Survey results are reported both at the System-level and disaggregated reports are delivered to individual universities. The presentation below provides an overview of results for Slippery Rock University alumni.

Future Plans of Bachelor Degree Recipients

Slippery Rock University awarded 1,761 bachelor degrees at the conclusion of the 2018-2019 academic year. Approximately 1,479 bachelor degree recipients took part in commencement exercises during either December 2018 or May 2019 and were asked to participate in a online survey. The Future Plans of 2018-2019 Bachelor Degree Recipients Survey resulted in 921 valid responses, a 62% response rate.
