About Our School Counseling Program

Slippery Rock University’s M.Ed. in School Counseling prepares you for certification as a professional school counselor for grades K–12 in Pennsylvania. Graduates are equipped to support students' academic, social, and emotional development in diverse educational settings. Those interested in becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania may take additional coursework to meet state requirements. SRU graduates are commonly employed in school districts, community agencies, and higher education institutions.

Why Get a School Counseling Degree?

  • Choose your pace with both full-time and part-time options that fit your schedule.
  • Earn your degree in as little as two years through a rigorous, cohort-based curriculum.
  • Study with expert faculty who hold doctoral degrees and bring real-world school counseling experience.
  • Customize your path with the flexibility to add credits toward Pennsylvania licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
  • Pursue additional credentials by taking courses to qualify for the Licensed Behavior Specialist (LBS) designation in Pennsylvania.
  • Train in a modern facility equipped with the latest technology and tools for counselor education.
  • Gain hands-on experience throughout the program with experiential learning embedded in every stage.
