About Our School Social Work Certificate

Slippery Rock University’s School Social Work Certificate is an approved preparation program recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). This certificate is designed for individuals who hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a CSWE-accredited program and are licensed in Pennsylvania as either a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Upon completion, candidates are eligible to apply for the Educational Specialist certification in School Social Work through PDE. To remain eligible for employment in a public school setting, individuals must maintain both their PDE certification and state licensure.

Career Outcomes

This post-master's certificate is the official pathway for licensed social workers to apply their clinical expertise within the K-12 educational system. Upon completion, you will be eligible for the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Educational Specialist certification in School Social Work, the required credential for practice in PA public schools.
