Commuter Services

The Robert M. Smith Student Center also proudly serves the commuter student population on campus through a variety of programming and engagement opportunities. Commuter Services continually strives to enhance the overall experience for commuter students at Slippery Rock University. The Student Center staff is committed to programming that provides non-residential students the immersive opportunity to connect to the SRU campus life throughout their time spent on-campus as well as on their drives home.


One of the most valuable services offered to commuters is the Commuter Connection Weekly Email to ensure commuter students are receiving current and appropriate information in regards to events and activities going on around campus for the current week.

One of the most fun, free, and delicious ways commuters come to connect is through the monthly meals offered. Commuter Breakfast is typically held on the first Wednesday of every month from 8:30am-10:30am on outside of Quaker Steak. Commuter Lunches are typically served from 12:00pm-1:30pm on the third Wednesday of every month inside of Weisenfluh Dining Hall conference rooms. Attendees also receive Slippery Rock University free gear only designed for commuter students!

Inside the Smith Student Center, there is also a designed for commuter students to be able to relax, hang out with friends or study. The Commuter Lounge is located on the second floor directly outside The Suite and can be rented out for special events and meetings. Commuter pantries on the second and third floors of the building that are equipped with sinks, fridges, and microwaves to provide commuter students places to prep any food they've brought from home.

Another great amenity offered for commuter students is the ability to rent lockers within our facility to store any belongings they may not want to carry around with them on campus.
