Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Certificate)

About Our TESOL Certificate

SRU’s Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate prepares you to teach English in the U.S. and abroad meeting the rising global demand for English instruction. With opportunities expanding through government initiatives in countries like South Korea, Japan, and Brazil, and growing need here in the U.S., you’ll be ready to make an impact. This comprehensive training equips you to teach English as a second language (TESL) domestically or English as a foreign language (TEFL) internationally. Whether your goal is to travel, work abroad, or support multilingual communities at home, this certificate opens doors and helps others unlock the power of English.

Why Get a TESOL Certificate?

  • Earn your credential quickly — you can complete the 13-credit Graduate TESOL Certificate in just 2–3 semesters.
  • Qualify for teaching jobs, as the certificate meets basic graduate-level requirements for ESL/EFL positions in the U.S. and abroad.
  • Balance your schedule with two evening classes per week and the rest of the coursework fully online.
  • Learn from top faculty — all instructors hold doctoral degrees and bring real-world experience to the classroom.
  • Advance your education by applying all 13 credits toward SRU’s online MA TESOL program, leaving just 17 credits to complete the degree.
