closing reception: Thursday, 2/29/2024, 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM

The Martha Gault Art Gallery proudly presents the exhibition,  INFLUENCES, an exhibition of artworks from Group A of Pittsburgh, curated by Barbara Westman,  MFA in Printmaking and Fiber Art, Professor at Slippery Rock University.

The exhibition explores early influences in an artist’s life that impacted their development of the concept of artwork, choice of materials, methods of artmaking and subject matter. This idea originated during discussions among the Group A members and addresses the artist’s beginnings. The influences come from diverse places. Such early catalysts included artist’s childhood experiences, emotions, being inspired by books, objects, and materials available.
We encourage you to visit the gallery to find out about each artist’s influences and how they emanate through their art. The artworks on display were selected from submitted artworks by the 27 Group A members and invited guests.

Group A is an active art organization formed in Pittsburgh in 1944. It provides exhibition opportunities for the group members and invited guests, and fosters an active dialog about contemporary visual art, art concepts and practices. Current members work in a wide variety of styles and media. Group A currently has about 80 members.
