Student Support can offer a variety of training options for the campus community related to social, emotional and personal wellness. Trainings can be tailored to meet your groups needs or created just for your space. Below are some examples of the topics we can cover:
Empathetic Leadership, Moving Teams Forward with Healthy Challenge and Support: Because your leadership style can directly impact the teams your trying to influence an increasing number of researchers have been studying Empathetic Leadership. This presentation will cover the impacts of empathetic leadership on productivity and success and help participants to think of ways they can incorporate this style into the teams they are leading.
Environments, Appreciation and Values in the Workplace: Research shows the workplace environment significantly impacts your mental health and a negative workplace environment can contribute to employee burnout and minimize employee retention. In this presentation we will talk about practical ways you can manage your work environment to create more comfortable spaces for colleagues and student
Creating a Caring Community with Student Support: Participants attending this training will learn more about how to recognize a student may need support, what to do in the moment to help a student, how to refer to Student Support and how Student Support work with a student to address their needs.
Kognito at Risk for Mental Health: This is an online training simulation to help you learn to notice signs of distress, use techniques to discuss concerns, and, if necessary, refer students to appropriate resources. At-Risk lets you practice challenging conversations about mental health at your own pace through role-play with virtual students. In a national study of effectiveness, this simulation has been shown to increase the number of student referrals to counseling and support services. It is also listed in the Suicide Prevention Resource Center’s Best Practices Registry and under review for inclusion in the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices. The experience can be completed in multiple sittings, your progress will be saved and once you’ve finished, you’ll receive a certificate of completion for your portfolio.
Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR): QPR is a suicide prevention training for participants to be able to recognize the warning signs of suicide and question, persuade, and refer people at risk for suicide for help. This training is promoted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and administered by staff in the Student Support office.
Suicide Prevention and Intervention for Staff and Faculty: This an in person 1.5 hour training using a compilation of national training models from the Jed Foundation, the QPR institute, the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, the American Association of Suicidology and Mental Health First. The training also includes information regarding our campus population’s mental health status as well as our experiences with recent suicide events.
Addressing Victimization During College: This training will walk participants through a complicated Title IX case on a State System Campus and outline a university’s scope of response, types of misconduct and the law, as well as exploration of common reactions of victims and respondents. Participants will also learn their role in response and campus resources to support students.
